Data Cleansing- A Path to Error-Free Database

Data cleansing also known as data scrubbing is the process of correcting or removing data in a database that is incorrect, incomplete, improperly formatted or duplicated. During data cleansing, records are checked for consistency and accuracy and are either corrected or deleted as necessary. A single set of records or a multiple set of records which work together can be cleansed. Data cleansing can be done either manually or by using computer programs.
An organization in a data-intensive field like banking, insurance, retailing, telecommunications, or transportation might use data cleansing tools to systematically examine data for flaws by using rules, algorithms, and look-up tables. Database administrator can save a lot of time by using a data cleansing tool and it will be less costly than fixing errors manually. The goal of data cleansing is to minimize the errors which arise due to huge data storage, and to make the data as useful as possible. Data cleansing leads to more efficient work and less complications in the long run.
